The Glatisant Mention and Updates

On December 5th, Ben Milton posted issue #22 of his The Glatisant newsletter. I was scanning through the post stopping at items that caught my eye, and one in particular was familiar, it was an item called Urth Simulator and continued to have the description Generates different aspects of a Dying Earth setting on demand. This was before I had any coffee yet, so it took me a minute to realize this was a link to Urth Simulacrum, my Urth Simulacrum. I was floored. Ben had not contacted me prior to including this in his newsletter, and I have a very small reach in the community, being that I only tweet about Vaults of Vaarn and related content and creators.

I was surprised not only because this was the very first release of this tool, but it is very unpolished, and in a proof-of-concept state at best. Not only this, but the very next tool in the list is the very impressive Hexroll, used to randomly generate an entire campaigns worth of content. Both of our tools were found under the worldbuilding section of Ben’s excellent newsletter, which if you are not subscribed to, you really should just go now and do that.

I have received a lot of really positive feedback from everyone, thank you all for stopping by and taking the time to play with this little tool I am creating to hopefully make populating your pointcrawls, and hexcrawls a little bit quicker. Based on feedback I switched my main focus from updating the grammar, to some minor UX improvements. I haven’t done any web design in years, so I did a bad thing and used a table while prototyping. This makes the menu hard to use on mobile devices. I have reworked this using pure css, but still need to port over the changes from vscode to perchance and cut a new release. Keep an eye out for that.

I have also started a few other Vaarn related projects that are taking my time at the moment that can be used with Urth Simulacrum. They are still formulating, so I don’t have anything to announce publicly yet, however if you follow me on twitter, you have probably seen hints at some of these things. All of these projects I am working on in collaboration with Leo Hunt, so expect lots of new ways to experience Vaarn coming up in 2022.

Happy Holidays you rugged survivors!
